I just turned 24. I had the best birthday I've probably every had. I was backpacking with friends in Point Reyes National Seashore. We hiked a total of about 16 miles over 3 days, 2 nights, so we weren't breaking any land speed records; that wasn't the point. I saw a "tide falls" which is a waterfall that falls onto the beach (Alamere Falls) and all of the wildflowers were in bloom. (I'll get around to making a normal blog post about that eventually....)

But I think that even though this was by far the best birthday I've ever had, next year's will be even better. I'll be turning 25 years old on the Appalachian Trail, probably somewhere in Virginia (Aunt Kirsten, lookin' for you!). I might poop my pants because I am that excited.

I think it's a pretty good choice for a quarter life crisis. I've never thought about doing something with such anticipation as I think about hiking the AT. I think about it every day, I think about it what feels like constantly. I seriously can. not. wait. Until then though I'll just keep reading current hiker blogs on Appalachian Trials, listening to the Pox and Puss podcast (check them out!), and getting out as often as I can (next trip is coming up in something like two weeks!) and looking at gear lists. Bon Voyage!
